inp.polri.go.id - West Sumatra. The Indonesian National Police (INP) remains committed to expediting post-disaster response to the flash floods that struck West Sumatra. The Search and Rescue (SAR) Team is clearing debris from the disaster along the river in Kampung Tengah Village, Palembayan District, Agam Regency, on Tuesday (1/27/2026).
The Head of the Public Information Division of INP Public Relations Division, Senior Superintendent Erdi A. Chaniago, explained that this step was taken as a mitigation measure to ensure the safety of people from the potential threat of further flooding.
"This activity aims to clear debris from the floodwaters, including mud, wood, and garbage that has accumulated along the riverbanks, to restore the environment and prevent further flooding," said Erdi in his statement.
Erdi added that INP prioritizes the principle of cooperation in its field operations. Police personnel are not working alone, but rather mingling with the community and other relevant agencies to ensure a speedy recovery in the affected areas.
"The cleanup is being carried out collaboratively, involving relevant agencies and the local community, so it is hoped that residents' activities can return to normal safely," he emphasized.
In addition to cleanup, the presence of personnel from the Second Regiment of the Pioneer Troops at the disaster site also aims to provide moral support to survivors.
INP ensures that SAR personnel will continue to be on standby until the situation in Agam Regency is truly conducive and residents' vital infrastructure can function optimally again.
