Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. In a concerted effort to anticipate the ongoing challenge of widespread flooding in Riau, Riau Regional Police Chief Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal led a cross-sectoral coordination meeting earlier this week. The meeting, held brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Riau administration, the Heads of regional administration agencies, top officials from the Riau Police, and representatives from the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Health Department, and other relevant institutions. The recent floods have impacted a staggering 236 locations spread across 12 districts and cities within the province. During the meeting, Chief Iqbal emphasized the need for a collective and well-coordinated response to effectively mitigate the impact of the flood disaster. He underscored the importance of joint efforts, saying, "Handling floods in Riau requires collaboration and synergy between the police, military, local government, and all relevant stakeholders, enabling us to formulate effective solutions for flood disaster management in the province." Furthermore, Chief Iqbal disclosed that the affected areas encompass 236 locations across 12 districts and cities in the Riau province. To address the situation, a total of 1,384 personnel, comprising police, military, BPBD, and health department personnel, have been mobilized to undertake relief and rescue operations. Expressing concern for the well-being of the residents, the Police Chief urged residents living in flood-prone areas to maintain a state of heightened vigilance, advocating for proactive measures such as regular clearing of water channels, choosing secure locations for residence, and formulating comprehensive evacuation plans in anticipation of potential disasters.
