Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti dismissed claims that the “Rojali”, referring to window-shopping without buying, and “Rohana”,  or asking without buying,  trends are caused by falling purchasing power.

“Our shopping habits have changed, and there’s nothing wrong with that. The data supports it,” she said on Wednesday (6/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The deputy minister noted a shift from in-store shopping to e-commerce, adding that consumer behavior varies widely.

Many now visit malls mainly for leisure such as watching movies, dining, or meeting friends while others prefer the convenience of online shopping. The Trade Ministry continues to study these lifestyle changes.

Deputy Minister Roro emphasized that offline shopping remains popular during festive seasons like Eid al-Fitr, Christmas and New Year, and school holidays.

“Some shop directly at malls while dining out, while others choose online platforms,” she said.
