Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi said sexual violence remains the most frequently reported form of abuse in Indonesia, with most incidents occurring within households.
“Sexual violence ranks highest in reported cases, and the most common setting for such violence is the domestic sphere,” she said after attending a national paralegal training hosted by Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama on Saturday (14/5/2025)..
From January to June 2024, the Ministry’s Simfoni database recorded 11,850 cases of violence against women and children, with over 12,600 victims — the majority of whom were women. Of these, 5,246 were cases of sexual violence.
Citing national survey data, Minister Arifah said one in four Indonesian women has experienced physical or sexual abuse in her lifetime. Nine in 100 children have suffered sexual violence, while half of the country’s youth have faced emotional abuse.
She stressed the urgency for stronger policies, greater public awareness, and better access to protective services.
