Inp.polri.go.id - Surakarta. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi announced on Sunday (13/10/2024) that the Simpang Joglo railway line in Surakarta, Central Java, is set to begin operations by 1 November 2024.

According to antaranews.com, he confirmed during a site visit that a load test is scheduled for October 23 and 24, which must be completed before the launch.

"We are working with the Public Works Ministry for the load testing. If successful, we will proceed with operations by November 1," Minister Budi Karya said.

The elevated railway bridge aims to reduce traffic congestion at Simpang Joglo, a known bottleneck with seven intersecting routes. The new structure is expected to improve safety and facilitate smoother transportation.The area was previously prone to long traffic jams and accidents.

Minister Budi Karya emphasized that the bridge design reflects local cultural heritage, incorporating elements inspired by Batik Sidomukti, Pasar Klewer, and the Keraton or the Royal Palace. 

He expected that the new rail line will enhance connectivity between Surakarta and Semarang while improving overall safety for commuters.
