Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. Lion Air flight JT638, en route from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang to Fatmawati Airport in Bengkulu, was diverted to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport (SMB II) in Palembang on Sunday (13/10/2024) due to adverse weather conditions.
R. Iwan Winaya, the Executive General Manager of SMB II Palembang, confirmed that the flight was redirected because visibility was limited at Bengkulu Airport as a result of poor weather.
He emphasized that such diversions are a normal safety procedure in aviation, as reported by antaranews.com.
"It's unsafe to attempt a landing when visibility is restricted," Iwan said, adding that prioritizing flight safety is essential.
The Lion Air aircraft was able to resume its journey to Bengkulu approximately 10 to 15 minutes after landing in Palembang at around 2.50 pm local time.
