Inp.polri.go.id - Situbondo.  The Water and Air Police Unit of the Situbondo Sub-regional Police, East Java, rescued three fishermen after their boat split in two and capsized in waves measuring approximately two meters on Saturday (9/3/2024) According to the Situbondo Water and Air Police Chief Senior Inspector Gede Sukarmadiyasa, the fishermen's boat, carrying three crew members, broke in two when it was hit by waves as they were preparing to dock in the waters of Kalbut, Semiring Village, Mangaran District. "These three fishermen were ready to dock, but suddenly their boat was hit by a two-meter-high wave, causing it to split in two," he said, as reported by antaranews.com The three fishermen were safely evacuated, including Busali (55), the skipper, along with two crew members, Asmojo (60) and Sadun (50), all aboard an unnamed boat to fish. One of them hd to be taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. "They set sail on Saturday, March 9, 2024, around 05:00 AM. As they were returning to shore around 03:30 PM, they entered Kalbut waters and were hit by waves and wind," Chief Gede explained. He called on local fishermen to postpone their sea trips or ensure they have adequate marine safety equipment due to the extreme weather, noting strong winds and high waves of up to two meters posing a threat to the safety of fishermen at sea.
