Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. A Smart Air cargo plane skidded off the runway while landing at Tiom Airstrip, Lanny Jaya Regency, Papua Mountains, on Saturday (11/10/2025). 

The Caravan C208 aircraft, registered as PK-SNA, was carrying food supplies and other goods from Timika, Mimika Regency.

Papua Regional Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Cahyo Sukarnito, there were no casualties in the incident. 

“The plane only carried cargo and food supplies from Timika to Tiom,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com

The aircraft, piloted by Captain Irwan with co-pilot Palma, reportedly encountered technical difficulties upon landing, causing it to veer off the runway.

Lanny Jaya Police  officers and airport authorities attempted to pull the aircraft back using heavy equipment but faced challenges due to uneven terrain at the end of the airstrip.

“As of now, the aircraft remains at the edge of the runway, and further evacuation efforts are underway,” Chief Cahyo added.
