This was conveyed directly by the South Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector-General Toni Hermanto, in a discussion on handling Covid-19, forest and land fires (Karhutla), illegal mining, and illegal oil drilling. As many as six suspects, along with evidence used to drill wells illegally.
"We ensure strict legal sanctions, both from downstream and individual perpetrators of illegal drilling to break the chain of illegal oil sales," explained the Regional Police Chief.
The South Sumatra Regional Police coordinates with the local government to prepare jobs for the illegal oil miners.
"For the perpetrators of illegal drilling, recruitment can be carried out to companies as an effort to develop the people of illegal miners," he explained.
In addition, companies that carry out mining activities around residential areas are also asked to provide corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the form of capital assistance and training for the community. That way, actors who carry out illegal oil drilling can be given training, so they don't take long actions.
"We will also make efforts to recover from environmental damage and conduct investigations and law enforcement against illegal drilling investors," he concluded.
