Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia’s new telerobotic surgery program aims to enable doctors in remote regions to perform robotic surgeries with remote guidance, expanding healthcare access nationwide, according to Professor Agus Rizal Hamid.
Professor Agus, a urology and oncology specialist, explained on Monday (11/11/2024) that telerobotic surgery allows remote surgical procedures through a robot controlled via telecommunications.
Indonesia achieved a major medical milestone with its first telerobotic surgery in August this year, marking a breakthrough in Southeast Asia. The historic surgery was conducted at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta, with remote assistance from Ngoerah General Hospital in Bali.
“While advanced, telerobotic procedures require expertise in minimally invasive surgery, like laparoscopy, along with robotic operation skills,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..
The technology promises to enhance medical services nationwide by allowing knowledge transfer, enabling doctors in remote areas to learn robotic surgery from afar.
