inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police have revealed that the perpetrator of thefts from luxury hotels in Jakarta, identified as NW (43), conducted a survey before committing the crime.
Based on the confession and investigators' investigation, the perpetrator apparently understood the activity patterns at star-rated hotels.
The suspect first sought information about the event schedules, from seminars to business meetings.
"Before committing the crime, the perpetrator first sought information regarding the activities or events at the hotel to map the situation and exploit any lapses, then targeted and stole the belongings of guests or visitors. So far, the perpetrator has operated at three crime scenes," explained the Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto, Wednesday (2/18/2026).
Budi revealed that preliminary investigations of the perpetrator revealed that he was wearing batik and a lanyard, as if he were a company participant or employee. He then freely entered and exited the hotel premises without arousing suspicion.
When he saw the perfect opportunity, the suspect immediately targeted the belongings of guests and visitors. Investigators are currently investigating the possibility of other victims, as it has been revealed that the perpetrator operated in three different locations.
"Based on preliminary investigation results, the perpetrator acted alone, and to date, there has been no indication of the involvement of other parties," he said.
