inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Trade Budi Santoso emphasized that the government will continue to maintain the availability of supplies and price stability for basic necessities in various regions to protect consumers' interests while ensuring the business continuity of producers.

"The government will continue to maintain the availability of supplies of basic commodities and also stabilize prices," Budi emphasized on Thursday (6/25/2026).

He stated that based on monitoring results, the prices of several food commodities are considered relatively good and under control. According to him, the prices of shallots, garlic, and chilies are showing a positive trend.

"The price of cayenne pepper at Pasar Manis is recorded at around IDR 40,000-IDR 50,000 per kilogram, lower than the highest retail price (HET) of around IDR 57,000 per kilogram," he said.

Meanwhile, the price of chicken eggs is around IDR 25,000 per kilogram and the price of chicken meat is around IDR 36,000 per kilogram. Budi believes that ideal food prices are close to the reference price and the HET because they reflect a balance between the interests of producers and consumers.

"If prices are too low, it's bad for farmers. But if prices are too high, it's bad for consumers. So we're looking for a common ground between producers and buyers," he said.

Regarding the persistently low prices of eggs and chicken, he stated that the government has coordinated with the hotel, restaurant, cafe, and modern retail sectors to boost the absorption of livestock products so that prices can stabilize.

Furthermore, the government continues to monitor price developments through the Market and Basic Needs Monitoring System (SP2KP). Currently, there are around 550 contributors in 514 regencies and cities who report on price conditions on the ground daily.

"We check price developments in the market every day, and the data is directly registered into our system. We can monitor them from Jakarta, but we also want to go directly to the regions," he said.

According to him, the government's presence in traditional markets is not only to collect data but also to provide direct supervision to ensure traders comply with applicable price regulations.
