Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation has issued a stern warning and will conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged incident involving pilots and co-pilots of Batik Air falling asleep during a flight.
"We will launch a comprehensive inquiry and assessment of Night Flight Operations in Indonesia, focusing on Fatigue Risk Management for Batik Air and all other airlines," said M. Kristi Endah Murni, the Director General of Civil Aviation, in a statement on Saturday (9/3/2024).
She addressed the recent incident concerning Batik Air flight BTK6723 A320, registration PK-LUV, where both the pilot and co-pilot were reportedly asleep during the flight from Kendari to Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com
However, Director General Kristi emphasized the need for airlines to prioritize the timing and quality of rest for pilots and other crew members, as it directly impacts their alertness during flights.
The crew of BTK6723 have been grounded as per internal standard operating procedures for further investigation.
The Directorate General will dispatch flight inspectors responsible for the Resolution of Safety Issues to identify the root cause of the problem and recommend appropriate mitigation measures to the airline operator and its regulatory body.
She praised the efforts of the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) that took the Batik Air case very seriously.
"We underscore that sanctions will be applied based on the findings of the investigative team," Director General Kristi added.
The incident took place on 25 January 20024 during a flight from Kendari in Southeast Sulawesi to Jakarta.
The flight had a scheduled block time of 2 hours and 35 minutes until reaching its destination, in accordance with Batik Air Indonesia's flight schedule.
