Inp.polri.go.id - Jeju. Two people, including an Indonesian citizen, died and two others went missing after two fishing boats carrying 15 crew members ran aground near Jeju Island, South Korea, on Saturday (1/1/2025).

The coast guard received reports around 9.24 am local time that a 32-ton fishing boat with seven crew members and a 29-ton boat with eight crew members had stranded on rocks in the waters near Jeju, according to antaranews.com..

By 3 pm local time, 13 crew members had been rescued, but two were found dead. A 50-year-old captain from the 32-ton boat was found in cardiac arrest and later died at the hospital. An Indonesian crew member was also found four hours after the incident, but he was also declared dead after being resuscitated.

Among the rescued, one person was hospitalized, while 10 others suffered mild hypothermia.

Search efforts for the two missing crew members continue, hampered by bad weather and high waves.
