inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Chairperson of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat said that the growth rate of digital media needs to be balanced with improvements in terms of policy, law, and increasing the competence of human resources in striving for the sustainability of broadcasting media.

"A proper mechanism that adapts to the rate of technological development  is needed so that the sustainability of broadcasting media is maintained," said Lestari in Jakarta, quoted by Antaranews on Thursday (5/8/2025).

According to her, efforts to revise Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting are driven by the fact that the dynamics of the media industry are currently changing.

For this reason, policy adjustments must be made to realize the strengthening of broadcasting institutions, freedom of the press and expression, protection of media workers and the public, and balancing the broadcasting ecosystem.

She said challenges such as competition between platforms, content monetization, financial challenges, paradigm shifts related to information sources and audiences, and the impact on the advertising industry can be answered immediately with the right solutions.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Indonesian Private Television Association (ATVSI) Gilang Iskandar revealed that the current condition of the broadcasting business is generally not doing well. Advertising spending allocations have decreased, he said, while capital expenditure and operating expenditure must still be spent.

As a result television stations are increasingly aggressive in carrying out efficiency. Starting from airing re-broadcasts, until finally being forced to lay off employees, in order to continue operating.

According to Gilang, this condition is worsened by the presence of new competitors, namely digital platforms, while the advertising value remains the same. On the other hand, he said that television media are required to comply with various regulations from a number of institutions related to business, technical broadcasting standards, to frequency arrangements, but digital is not bound by as many rules as television media.

"So that there is an unbalanced application of regulations," he said.
