inp.polri.go.id – The World Health Organization (WHO) reminds gay couple to beware, due to that group being the most affected by the monkeypox. They conveyed their warning regarding the recent spike in cases of monkeypox in the world. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that based on data submitted to his organization, currently more than 18,000 cases of monkeypox have spread in 78 countries. Of those cases, 70% were reported in Europe and another 25% in America. Of the number of cases, there were five deaths due to monkeypox. He said 98% of monkeypox cases occurred on homosexual men. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found 98% of people infected with monkeypox were gay or bisexual men and 95% of cases were transmitted through sexual activity. He therefore said the strategy of limiting sexual activity on gay couple was the best way to avoid monkeypox. "For homosexual men, you should reduce your number of sexual partners, and reconsidering sex with a new partner," he said, as quoted from AFP, Wednesday (7/27). Andy Seale, member of the WHO's Sexually Transmitted Infections Programme, also warned the gay and bisexual men about the neccessity to reduce the number of sexual partners. He said the message would probably only be delivered in the short term.
