Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Indonesia has urged Indonesia to remain committed to the Paris Agreement, warning that an exit could weaken the country's negotiating power in global climate efforts.

“We hope Indonesia does not follow suit,” said Irfan Bakhtiar, theWWF Indonesia’s Director of Climate and Market Transformation, at the International Conference on Palm Oil and Environment (ICOPE) 2025 in Sanur, Bali, on Thursday (13/2/2025).

His statement came after the United States withdrew from the accord, raising concerns about the future of climate finance and emission reduction commitments, according to antaranews.com.

Ifran emphasized Indonesia’s role as a climate solution provider, contrasting with the U.S., a major greenhouse gas emitter that should be compensating countries like Indonesia for emission mitigation efforts.

The U.S. exit could also impact the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), a $20 billion renewable energy funding initiative agreed upon at the G20 Summit in Bali (2022).

Indonesia is reportedly reassessing its renewable energy agenda following the U.S. decision.
