Inp.polri.go.id - Balikpapan. The East Kalimantan Regional Police arrested two men in Berau Regency for trafficking 21 kilograms of methamphetamine from Malaysia.
Authorities acted on a 8 February 2025 tip-off about a drug transaction near a hotel. Surveillance led to the arrest of the suspects, identified as SZ and Zon, on 9 February 2025, when officers intercepted the suspects’ vehicle, uncovering 21 meth packages hidden in backpacks.
“The suspects admitted smuggling the drugs from Malaysia via North Kalimantan using a speedboat. They were promised Rp 100 million for delivering the meth to East Kalimantan and Sulawesi,” said Senior Superintendent Arif Bastari, the East Kalimantan Head of the Narcotics Investigation Unit, on Thursday (13/2/2025) as quoted by antaranews.com.
Additional operations in Samarinda and Balikpapan led to more arrests and drug seizures. The suspects face six to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
