Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia’s largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), announced plans to take legal action against private broadcaster Trans7 over a program accused of insulting Islamic boarding schools, known locally as pesantren, and respected religious figures.

The controversial episode of Xpose Uncensored, aired Monday, allegedly mocked pesantren culture and clerics revered by NU followers.

“I have instructed our Legal Aid and Advocacy Division to pursue the necessary legal measures,” PBNU Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, widely known as Gus Yahya, said on Tuesday (14/10/2025). “The Trans7 program explicitly humiliated pesantren and the figures highly respected by Nahdlatul Ulama.”

Yahya demanded Trans7 and its parent company, Trans Corporation, issue a public apology and take concrete steps to repair the “social damage” caused, according to antaranews.com.

Indonesia’s Broadcasting Commission (KPI) confirmed it will review the case, calling the broadcast a violation of journalistic ethics and national harmony. The video, which showed santri, or pesantren pupils, bowing to clerics, has sparked widespread public mockery online.
