Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Prabowo Subianto has invited Japanese companies to collaborate on the construction of a massive sea wall along Jakarta’s northern coast, aiming to protect the city from rising sea levels.

During a meeting with a Japanese business delegation from the Japan Indonesia Association (Japinda) at the Presidential Palace on Thursday (5/12/2024), President Prabowo outlined plans for the 600-kilometer sea wall project.

Minister of Investment Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, who accompanied the President, revealed that the discussions were productive and sparked valuable input. The project offers several potential cooperation models, including Business-to-Business (B2B), Government-to-Government (G2G), and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).

“We are open to various cooperation schemes,” he said, adding that Japan’s large companies could contribute to the project’s construction, engineering, and funding.

Further talks will take place on Friday, focusing on funding and other collaborative aspects.

The sea wall, estimated to cost around USD 7.4 billion, will span from Banten to Bekasi in West Java and also address sanitation and river normalization. The funding will not rely solely on Indonesia’s State Budget.
