The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) commemorated World Habitat Day and World City Day 2024. They planted 100 trees in the UII reservoir, Sleman Yogyakarta and invited the younger generation to continue preserving nature.

The Director of Settlement and Housing Engineering Development Dian Irawati, said that this year's World Habitat Day and World City Day highlight the important role of the younger generation in leading climate action.

According to her, planting trees is a local effort to create a sustainable urban future. This step is part of a real effort to reduce the impact of climate change and protect the environment.

Furthermore, she said, World Habitat Day is a momentum for the younger generation to raise their awareness of the environment and climate. She hopes that the commemoration of World Habitat Day, which this year falls on October 7th, can increase the understanding of UII students about the importance of habitat and sustainability.

She also added that the theme of World Habitat Day and World Cities Day 2024 is very relevant to the climate challenges. The commemoration also marks the importance of collaboration with students. A total of 100 trees were planted in the Universitas Islam Indonesia environment and at the location of the Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center infrastructure development. The types of plants planted are various types of strong and fast-growing plants, such as Mahogany, Kapok, and so on.
