inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Minister of Health Benjamin Paulus Octavianus stated that the free health check (CKG) program has targeted approximately 19 million people from January to April 2026.
"Around 1.16 million of them have been recorded for treatment and disease management," said Benjamin on Tuesday (5/12/2026).
He explained that the health program, which began in February 2025, generally targeted 70 million people to be examined in the first year, and this was achieved, comprising 46 million annual CGK participants and 24 million school CGK participants.
"This year, we hope to reach 150 million people. However, it is certainly better to eventually have CKG for all Indonesians if our facilities are complete," explained Benjamin.
He explained that CKG is fundamentally crucial for early detection of hypertension, tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus, and nutritional status. Until now, Indonesians have not been accustomed to undergoing regular health checks, often only when preparing for the Hajj, Umrah, or for work purposes.
In fact, catastrophic diseases, including complications of diabetes and hypertension, are actually preventable, both through early detection and a regular, healthy lifestyle.
"The BPJS Kesehatan (health insurance) spends a huge amount of money on catastrophic diseases, even though these diseases are preventable," he said.
He cited the example of the 2020 budget for dialysis, which was IDR 2.3 trillion, and this year's budget has reached IDR 13.4 trillion. Similarly, heart attacks have reached over IDR 17 trillion.
"Currently, 156,000 people are on dialysis, and BPJS can cover this because the state can afford it. But what if the number increases to 300,000? Dialysis can be prevented by controlling hypertension and diabetes," explained Benjamin.
Going forward, he hopes that the increasing number of hospitals and health facilities currently under construction will allow people to visit not only for treatment when they are sick, but also for early detection and disease prevention. This is especially true with the availability of increasingly sophisticated medical equipment for early detection of various diseases.
"So far, CGK has been implemented in community health centers, schools, ministries and institutions, and several communities," he said.
