inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Food Agency (Bapanas) stated that the national supply of cayenne pepper remained secure, resulting in prices gradually stabilizing in the first week of May 2026, driven by improved production at key centers and smoother inter-regional distribution.
"National cayenne pepper prices showed a decline in the first week of May 2026," said I Gusti Ketut Astawa, Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization at Bapanas, Wednesday (5/13/2026).
He explained that improved supply from production centers and strengthened inter-regional distribution have led to market stabilization of cayenne pepper prices.
Astawa stated that based on monitoring by the Ministry of Trade's Market and Basic Needs Monitoring System (SP2KP), as of May 12, 2026, the average national price of red cayenne pepper was around IDR 63,252 per kilogram.
This position is significantly lower than the period leading up to Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026, when prices in some markets reached around IDR 120,000 per kilogram.
He stated that the price of cayenne pepper has begun to be more controlled after supplies from several production centers returned to the market. Smooth distribution has gradually eased the price pressure that had increased during the Eid al-Fitr period.
"It's true that when it rains, some areas experience plant pest infestations and other pests, which is a bit disruptive," said Deputy Astawa.
However, the national supply of cayenne pepper remains relatively secure, and consumer prices have decreased significantly compared to the previous peak demand period.
This improvement is evident in the number of regencies/cities experiencing an increase in the IPH for cayenne pepper, which has now fallen to 91 regions in the first week of May 2026, after reaching 127 regions in the third week of April.
He emphasized that the decline in cayenne pepper prices has also had a positive impact on controlling national food inflation.
"This means that inflation has dropped significantly. While above the Reference Sales Price (HAP), it's okay, but relative prices have dropped significantly," he added.
To maintain this improving trend, Bapanas is closely coordinating with production centers and horticultural farmers to ensure a steady supply of chili peppers in all regions.
