Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The first day of weather modification operations (OMC) on Tuesday (11/3/2025) saw 2.4 tons of salt (NaCl) dispersed to mitigate extreme rainfall and prevent hydrometeorological disasters such as flooding.
"The operation completed three sorties, totaling 6 hours and 30 minutes of flight time, dispersing 2.4 tons of NaCl," said Michael Sitanggang, the OMC Jakarta 2025 spokesperson and Head of Logistics and Equipment at D Jakarta’s Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
The first sortie targeted northwestern Jakarta, the Sunda Strait, and the Thousand Islands, while the second and third sorties covered the Java Sea. Authorities coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and West Java’s BPBD for a synchronized response.
Acting Director of Weather Modification Governance at the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Budi Harsoyo, confirmed significant cloud growth on Tuesday, with high relative humidity at 3,000 feet.
"Rainfall potential remains high over the next four days, particularly in western Java," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The operations, supported by the Indonesian Air Force and PT Rekayasa Atmosphere Indonesia, will continue from morning to afternoon through designated command centers in Jakarta and Bandung.
