Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Nine people exposed to radioactive Cesium-137 (Cs-137) in Cikande, Banten, are receiving treatment at Fatmawati Hospital in Jakarta, the Ministry of Health confirmed Friday (3/10/2025).
All patients are in stable condition with no visible symptoms, as reported by antaranews.com.
“For treatment, patients were given prussian blue,” said Ministry spokesperson Aji Muhawarman, adding that the findings came from screening 1,562 workers and nearby residents after traces of Cs-137 were detected in the area’s industrial zone.
Authorities applied multi-layered detection, starting with external radiation checks using survey meters, followed by decontamination and blood tests. Those with low lymphocyte counts underwent whole-body counter scans to detect internal cesium exposure.
Health officials warned that Cs-137 exposure could trigger acute radiation syndrome, skin burns, immune system damage, or long-term cancer risks.
The government has expanded health monitoring within a 5-kilometer radius, launched public education campaigns, and urged residents to undergo free medical checks. Officials stressed that contamination levels remain manageable and under strict surveillance.
