Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. Officers from the Aceh Regional Police Directorate of Traffic distributed flowers and light snacks to visitors at the mass gravesite for tsunami victims in Siron, Aceh Besar, as part of a 20th-anniversary commemoration of the 2004 disaster.

“This is a gesture of sympathy toward families visiting to pay their respects,” said Aceh Police Director of Traffic Senior Superintendent  Muhammad Iqbal Alqudusy on Thursday (26/12/2024).

The commemoration, which included over 300 floral packages and snacks distributed to visitors, was part of a broader reflection on the devastating tsunami that claimed countless lives. .

Events were held at three key locations: the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh, Siron mass grave, and Gampong Pie mass grave. Police personnel also led a collective prayer with families, military officers, and local residents to honor the victims.

"This shared moment reminds us of the importance of solidarity and togetherness as we remember the tragedy of two decades ago," said Chief Iqbal, as quoted by antaranews.com.
