Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh Inspector General Achmad Kartiko, Chief of Aceh Regional Police, disclosed a methamphetamine smuggling operation involving 20 kilograms of the illicit substance being transported from Malaysia to East Aceh Regency.
The arrests unfolded in Kuala Idi, East Aceh Regency, where three individuals—Muhammad Yusuf (41), Zulkarnaeni (44), and Yurizal (38)—all local fishermen, were arrested, antaranews.com reported.
On Thursday (30/11/2023), Chief Kartiko said, "In addition to the arrests, authorities seized 20 kilograms of methamphetamine and a motorboat."
Prompted by public concerns regarding the escalating smuggling activities of prohibited goods, the investigation commenced. A collaborative effort, including Aceh Regional Police, the Indonesian National Police (INP)'s Criminal Investigation Agency, and Aceh Provincial Customs Directorate Regional Office, organized a comprehensive land and sea patrol in the Strait of Malacca.
During the patrol, the joint team identified a suspicious motorboat, initiated pursuit, and subsequently discovered 20 packages of methamphetamine through a meticulous search.
The accused individuals face charges under the Narcotics Law, which mandates a minimum sentence of 20 years imprisonment and a maximum penalty of death.
