Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Senior Superintendent Ade Ary Syam Indradi, the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police Head of Public Relations, revealed  on Monday (2/9/2024) that the motive behind the acid attack by a suspect identified as SAA (21) on Brimob officer TBG (25) was to inflict injury.

“The attack aimed to cause harm so that the officer could not perform his duties,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The acid thrown by the suspect, identified as SAA (21), caused burns on the face, arms, and thighs of the victim, Mobile Brigade soldier TGB (25), necessitating treatment at the Indonesian National Police (INP) Hospital in Kramat Jati.

“The victim is now in stable condition and receiving care at Kramat Jati Hospital,” Chief Ade Ary added.

He emphasized the importance of preventing such incidents from recurring and reducing violence in the Basuki Rahmat area, East Jakarta.

“Prevention is crucial. We are committed to continuous preventive measures and cooperation with all stakeholders,” he said.

SAA was arrested on 31 August 2024 at his girlfriend’s house in Bidara Cina, Jatinegara, following the 29 August 2024 attack. AChief de Ary explained that during a clash in Basuki Rahmat, the suspect, disguised in a blue and white outfit, threw acid at officers attempting to disperse the crowd.

The suspect now faces charges under various sections of the Criminal Code for assault and resisting law enforcement, with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
