inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono revealed that more than 27,000 Indonesian citizens (WNI) had been successfully repatriated from various dangerous situations throughout 2025.

"Throughout 2025, Indonesia repatriated 27,768 Indonesian citizens from various crisis situations, ranging from armed conflict to transnational crimes such as online scams and online gambling," he said while delivering the 2026 Annual Press Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (PPTM), as reported by antaranews, Wednesday (1/14/2026).

He explained that Indonesian diplomacy is based on the needs of the people, national interests, and the state's obligation to be present and protect its citizens.

The protection of Indonesian citizens, he stated, is a key pillar of Indonesian diplomacy and aligns with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution to "protect all Indonesian people."

He further viewed the protection of Indonesian citizens by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a crucial aspect in measuring national resilience, by assessing the extent to which the state is present to protect its citizens.

"Diplomacy is a state instrument to ensure the safety, prosperity, and protection of its people amidst an increasingly uncertain global situation," he explained.

He said that, therefore, the repatriation of Indonesian citizens to Indonesia throughout 2025 reflects the state's presence in protecting its citizens.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs ensured that the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to optimize efforts to protect Indonesian citizens in various ways, including by strengthening international partnerships and increasing the preparedness of Indonesian missions to face unexpected situations.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also strengthen its early warning system to anticipate potential crises and advance the digitalization of services for Indonesian citizens abroad, he added.

He also expressed his appreciation for all Indonesian representatives abroad who have been directly involved in efforts to free Indonesian citizens, resolve problems facing them, and ensure their safe return to Indonesia throughout 2025.

In closing, he conveyed that his ministry has made empowering the diaspora a focus of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, considering their position as subjects of development and assets of national resilience.
