Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Indonesian Agriculture Ministry will provide free chili seeds to the people in the following year for household independence from the ever-changing markets. The Agriculture Minister, Andi Amran Sulaiman say every household could have their own chili stock by planting at least 5 to 10 chili pots. He believes this initiative could help the people in fulfilling their chili needs. Meanwhile, National Food Agency is trying to stabilize the market through facilitating food distribution of chilies from central region to deficit region. Head of National Food Agency Arief Prasetyo Adi says the intervention is aimed to meet and maintain the supply stability in Jakarta and its surrounding area. “The increasing price of chili will be suppressed by facilitating the distributions from the productive and low-price regions. We have identified the central chili production outside Java such as South Sulawesi who are ready to supply the chili to Jakarta and its surrounding areas,” he explains. Around 2.4 tons of red chilis will be distributed by South Sulawesi farmers to Jakarta with the support of the logistics facilities given directly by National Food Agency. In his official statement, he reveals that the current supply of red chilis is experiencing an increase in several regions. According to the information from sellers in Kramat Jati Market on Saturday (11/4/2023), the average price of chili is IDR 70,000 per kg, while the resellers sell it at IDR 80,000 – IDR 90,000 per kg. According to him, there are several areas where the price has reached up to IDR 100,000 per kg. He reveals that the production of all chili is in decrease due to El Nino. (ad/fa/pr/nm)
