The opening of the 2022 Independence Cup football match was attended by the Chairperson of the Riau Islands Provincial DPRD, the Riau Islands Deputy Police Chief, the Riau Islands Police Chief Official, and the Bintan Police Chief. “The activity began with the Defile of Participants from 16 teams, the Handing over of the Ball by Kapolda Kepri to Director of the General Criminal Investigation (Dir Reskrimum) of Riau Island Police (Polda Kepri) as the chief executive," said Head of Public Relations (Kabid Humas) of Polda Kepri, Commissioner Harry Goldenhardt S, S.I.K., M.Sc. The Chairman of Regional People's Representative Assembly (DPRD) Riau Islands DPRD, Jumaga Nadeak, S.H., M.H., hopes that this match will bring better results and able to find a talented player that eventually would excel at national and international levels, and hoped that football in the Riau Islands Province becomes more flourished. Dir reskrimum Polda Kepri, Commissioner Jefri Ronald Parulian Siagian, S.I.K., M.Sc., as the Chief Executive of the event, said that Polda Kepri once again held a football match, this was an initiative from Kapolda Kepri to organize a football match that was open to the public in the Riau Islands region. So in this football match there were 16 teams, 8 teams which were under the auspices of the Riau Islands Province PSSI and the rest are combination of Police Ranks which of course not only members of the Police who played, but also included the general public. “This football match starts from 2nd July untill 15th August 15, 2022. The goal is to revitalize football in the Riau Islands region so that we can create an excellent talents that can take part at the national level, "explained Dir Reskrimum Polda Kepri.
