Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo expressed his firm optimism that the Indonesian rupiah will stabilize against the US dollar following a strategic meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex on Monday (18/5/2026).
"I am confident it will stabilize," he told reporters, though he noted that market dynamics preclude a precise timeline for the recovery, as cited by antaranews.com.
Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that the nation's macroeconomic foundations and fiscal framework remain highly resilient, with the state budget securely positioned to fund priority government programs. To counter recent volatility, the government has actively entered the bond market to manage liquidity and support the local currency.
Minister Purbaya indicated plans to gradually increase bond investments to stimulate foreign capital inflows and strengthen market positioning, with a comprehensive fiscal strategy set to be announced shortly.
The policy remarks responded as the rupiah closed weaker on Monday, slipping to Rp17,668 per US dollar compared to its previous close of Rp 17,597. Similarly, Bank Indonesia’s Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) recorded a decline, moving to Rp17,666 per US dollar from the prior position of Rp17,496.
