Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has warned that financial crimes in the banking sector remain occur, even with strong security systems in place, if customers are careless with their personal data.
“Banks may have multi-layered security and follow strict data protection rules, but crimes remain when customers let their guard down or fail to protect their personal information,” said Friderica Widyasari Dewi, the OJK’s Chief Executive for Consumer Protection and Business Conduct Supervision, on Saturday (24/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
She highlighted how criminals are using increasingly sophisticated tactics—like phishing, social engineering, skimming, and SIM swap fraud—while many consumers remain vulnerable due to low digital and financial literacy.
To address this, OJK has introduced Regulation No. 22/2023, which strengthens consumer protection, including clear rules on data privacy and support for victims.
Friderica also warned about the rise of fake investments and illegal online arisan schemes targeting vulnerable groups, urging greater public awareness and education.
