Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced on Thursday (22/1/2026) that the government aims to finalize the 10% divestment of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) shares for the Papuan regional government by the first quarter of 2026.
"The Governor met with me to discuss several issues, including the 10% share allocation for Papua in Freeport," Minister Bahlil said following a House of Representatives (DPR) hearing. "We intend to settle this in the near future. God willing, by the first quarter."
The divestment came after a strategic meeting with Papua Governor Mathius Fakhiri to synchronize central and regional efforts regarding the mining giant's ownership structure. It serves as a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto to ensure that Indigenous Papuans benefit directly from the province's vast natural resources.
Governor Fakhiri is currently coordinating with other Papuan governors to finalize a collective management scheme for the shares. Once completed, this 10% stake will represent a significant shift toward local economic empowerment and resource sovereignty for the people of Papua within one of the world's largest copper and gold mining operations.
