Inp.polri.go.id - Padang. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) intensified search efforts across West Sumatra on Tuesday (2/12/2025), deploying 1,154 personnel to locate victims of widespread floods and landslides.
“SAR operations in West Sumatra are being carried out continuously with support from the TNI, Polri, local governments, and community volunteers,” said Basarnas senior official Djefri D.T., as reported by antaranews.com.
Basarnas has verified all victim data and submitted it to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), while concentrating field searches on the hardest-hit locations. Reinforcement teams from Jakarta, Central Java, and West Java, totaling 150 personnel, are currently en route by SAR vessel. One helicopter is already operating for medical evacuation and logistics, with two additional aircraft expected to arrive shortly.
Agam Regency reported the highest number of missing persons, estimated at 70 to 75, yet damaged routes continue to block heavy equipment. Basarnas has also requested extra health support as some recovered bodies have been exposed for more than five days.
