inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) explained the reasons for inviting the Indonesian National Police (INP), the Indonesian Military (TNI), and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) at the start of the Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) Program.
Sony Sonjaya, Vice Head of BGN's Nutrition Fulfillment Operations Division, stated that at the start of the MBG Program, BGN could not immediately establish a Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) using the goods and services procurement process.
He assessed that INP, TNI, and Kadin were chosen because these agencies already have strong personnel throughout Indonesia that can strengthen community empowerment.
"In 2025, we weren't sure whether this program would have public support or how those involved would be involved in its implementation. So, the plan was to build 1,542 SPPG from the State Budget (APBN), specifically in 514 districts/cities. In this step, INP was ordered to construct 1,000 SPPGs, TNI to construct another 1,000, and Kadin also 1,000. That was the instruction at the time," explained Sony on Thursday (4/16/2026).
According to him, this scheme allows the government to accelerate the construction of all SPPGs, as it would be impossible to build all SPPGs using the procurement process, which would certainly take a considerable amount of time.
Sony explained that the initial target for the MBG Program in 2025 was to build 5,000 SPPGs, serving approximately 15 million beneficiaries.
He also stated that the MBG program is intended to be a program that can generate a multiplier effect on local economic empowerment. Therefore, accelerating the development of the SPPG is crucial to achieving this goal.
He continued, to date, the number of MBG beneficiaries has reached 62.35 million people, including 49.64 million students and 12.7 million non-students.
