Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Bank Indonesia (BI) is open to cooperating with the United States on cross-border QRIS use, provided both countries are equally prepared, said BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti on Monday (21/4/2025).

Her comment followed the U.S. Trade Representative’s concerns over trade barriers in Indonesia, particularly regarding digital payment regulations.

Speaking at a financial education event for Indonesian migrant workers, Destry emphasized that QRIS partnerships are not restricted by country. 

“If America is ready, we’re ready—why not collaborate?” she said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Destry also highlighted the continued dominance of U.S.-issued credit cards like Visa and Mastercard in Indonesia, calling their presence unproblematic.

The USTR recently cited Indonesia’s QRIS and GPN (National Payment Gateway) policies as trade hurdles, criticizing limited foreign ownership and partnership requirements. Despite this, Indonesia and the U.S. plan to engage in structured tariff talks and aim to finalize a cooperation framework within 60 days.
