Inp.polri.go.id - Nagan Raya. The Aceh Nature Conservation Agency (BKSDA) has retrieved two ivory tusks from a deceased Sumatran Elephant (Elephas Maximus Sumatrensis) discovered along the riverside of Paya Undan Village, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh.
"Two elephant tusks were brought in by the BKSDA forensics team for further investigation," said Police First Inspector M Thahar, Chief of the Seunagan Police Office Aceh, as reported by antaranews.com.
He saidthat the medical team was unable to determine the cause of death of the Sumatran elephant due to its advanced decomposition.
Authorities are now awaiting the autopsy results from the forensics team to conclusively ascertain the cause of death.
Chief Thahar explained that the elephant carcass had been buried at the discovery site due to its advanced decomposition and the accompanying odor.
To prevent the foul odor from spreading to the nearby community, specialized heavy equipment was employed to carry out the burial.
Chief Thahar said that the primary focus of the police remains discovering and determining the cause of death of the elephant.
