Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has issued a stern warning to the public against the recreational use of Dinitrogen Oxide ($N_{2}O$), commonly known as "laughing gas" or "Whip Pink."
The advisory was issued amidst intense social media speculation linking the substance to the sudden death of a female influencer. While the gas has legitimate medical and industrial uses, its misuse as an inhalant for short-term euphoria poses life-threatening risks.
"Nitrous Oxide is not for recreational consumption. While the euphoric effects are brief, the risks are both fatal and permanent," said BNN Chief Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, on Tuesday (27/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
He explained that inhaling $N_{2}O$ can lead to severe hypoxia (oxygen deprivation), permanent nerve damage, and critical Vitamin B12 deficiency. Misuse is often identified by the presence of small silver canisters (cartridges) or balloons used for inhalation.
Chief Suyudi urged parents to monitor their children's surroundings and report any illegal distribution of these canisters. BNN provides a confidential and free rehabilitation service via their 184 hotline for those affected by substance abuse.
