inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The West Java Regional Police has clarified information regarding 108 people missing in the landslide disaster in Babakan Hamlet, Pasirkuning, Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, on Saturday (1/24/2026).
The Head of Operations for the West Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Laode Aries El Fathar, emphasized that the figure of 108 does not reflect the number of missing victims, but rather the number of people who came to the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) post for post-mortem examinations.
"One victim can be represented by two to three family members who come to report. Therefore, the number of reports cannot be used as a reference for the number of missing victims," he said, as reported by Antaranews, Tuesday (January 27, 2026).
He added that the police will still accept people who come to report even if they do not bring their ID cards or family cards.
Laode mentioned that regarding the victim identification process, he reported that 20 body bags had been successfully identified since the first day of the disaster as of Monday, 6:30 PM WIB.
He said there are currently 38 body bags at the Community Health Center (Puskesmas), with 18 still being identified by the Disaster Management and Victim Identification (DVI) team.
"The identification process is ongoing and will resume tomorrow," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung Basarnas Office, Ade Dian Permana, revealed that after handing over 38 body bags to the police, his team continued to search for dozens of other residents still suspected of being buried.
"So, the total number of body bags recovered from the first to the third day was 38," he explained.
He also emphasized that the data on missing victims is dynamic, so the number may increase or decrease, depending on the latest reports.
