Inp.polri.go.id - Gianyar. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) uncovered a sophisticated clandestine laboratory producing mephedrone at a villa in Gianyar, Bali, on Thursday night.
During a joint operation with the Customs Office and Immigration Office, authorities arrested two Russian citizens, identified as NT and ST, who allegedly operated the facility. This bust was the largest mephedrone laboratory seizure in BNN history, uncovering approximately 7.8 kilograms of the dangerous synthetic "party drug" in both solid and liquid forms.
"Thi is the result of an intensive joint operation since January 2026, targeting international syndicates operating within Bali," BNN Chief Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto confirmed on Saturday (7/3/2026), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The suspects, one a biology expert and the other a former military intelligence officer, reportedly manufactured the narcotics between midnight and dawn to evade detection. Investigators seized 219 liters of chemical precursors and professional laboratory equipment alongside the finished drugs.
The syndicate frequently rotated between luxury villas to mask their illicit production, which was intended for local distribution.
