Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia’s disaster authorities confirmed readiness for emergency evacuations following a magnitude 8.7 earthquake in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, which triggered tsunami warnings for five provinces.
"We urge all officers to stay with the people, ensure logistics are sufficient, and evacuation shelters are well-prepared until conditions are officially declared safe," said the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Secretary Rustian during a press conference on Wednesday (30/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported sea level anomalies up to 20 cm in several locations, including Jayapura and Sorong. Though the tsunami impact remains uncertain, evacuation has begun in coastal areas such as Jayapura, where 100 residents moved to a naval base.
The Indonesian Military (TNI) deployed Army, Navy, and Air Force units to assist.
"TNI has activated emergency response forces to support evacuations and logistics," said TNI spokesperson Major. General Kristomei Sianturi.
TNI also prepared naval vessels and aircraft for coastal surveillance and rapid deployment.
