Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Environment has frozen 80 environmental permits in the coal and nickel sectors following a comprehensive evaluation of 250 mining units in 14 critical provinces where mining operations are suspected of contributing significantly to regional flooding and ecological degradation.
“Of the 250 units evaluated so far, we have frozen approximately 80 environmental permits as we shift toward stricter legal enforcement,” said Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq on Wednesday (25/2/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
The Ministry is currently reviewing a total of 1,358 extraction units, with the number of frozen permits expected to rise.
Beyond administrative sanctions, KLH is pursuing civil lawsuits that could yield up to Rp 6 trillion in state revenue from non-compliance fines. Officials emphasized that these measures serve as a deterrent to ensure all mining firms strictly adhere to sustainability laws and mitigate their impact on local disaster risks.
