Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the death toll from hydrometeorological disasters across parts of Sumatra has reached 1,177 people as of Sunday (4/1/2026).
The fatalities were recorded across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra following floods and landslides triggered by extreme weather.
“The total number of confirmed fatalities has increased by 10, bringing the overall death toll to 1,177,” BNPB Data and Information Center Head Abdul Muhari said during a press briefing in Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com.
The additional deaths were reported in North Aceh, South Tapanuli, and West Sumatra. BNPB also confirmed that 148 people remain missing, while more than 242,000 residents are currently displaced. Emergency response status has shifted to the transition phase in most affected regions, although Agam Regency in West Sumatra remains under emergency alert due to the risk of further landslides.
