inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Novita Hardini highlighted the importance of the role of the National Standardization Agency (BSN) in the national health sector to build public trust in Indonesian medical tourism.
Novita Hardini emphasized that the existence of national standards contributes directly to the security, safety, and quality of health services.
"In the world of health, BSN must play an important role even though it is not directly through the hospital accreditation institution," said Novita in her statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.
However, she said, this standardization function is very vital to ensure that health services meet safety and quality standards.
Novita emphasized that BSN must actively expand supervision and strengthen standards not only in the industrial sector, but also in the health service sector so that health tourism destinations like those abroad can also be done by Indonesia.
"If BSN has a role in all of that, it should be more proactive in taking strategic steps to ensure that public safety standards are truly enforced, not only in the industrial sector, but also in public health," she said.
In addition to health issues, Novita added that BSN must also take a bigger role in the MSME sector, which is one of the backbones of the national economy.
From the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to the pressure of the global trade war, MSMEs have always been the saviors.
"However, if the certification process remains complicated, expensive, and impartial, how can we maintain the strength of MSMEs as the mainstay of the nation's economy?" she asked.
She encouraged BSN to simplify certification procedures, clarify which national standard classifications (SNI) are mandatory and which are not for MSMEs, and reduce certification costs to make them more affordable for the public.
