inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said Russia's participation in a meeting of G20 finance ministers made no sense. During two days of talks at a meeting held in Bali, finance chiefs sought solutions to the food and energy crisis, while accusing Russian technocrats of exacerbating the problem. However, the participants failed to issue a final statement. Freeland said his government protested the meeting. They don't even want Russia to be on the G20 forum. "Russia's presence in this meeting is like inviting the arsonists to a meeting of firefighters," he told a press conference by telephone. "That's because Russia is directly and solely responsible for the illegal invasion of Ukraine, and its economic consequences, which are felt by all of us," Freeland said. Freeland argues the Russian technocrats who, she says, are working to fund the war launched by President Vladimir Putin are as guilty in war crimes as the generals on the battlefield attacking Ukraine. However, Freeland also defended Canada's decision to allow the return of turbines to Germany for use in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline that delivers Russian gas to Europe. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky strongly condemned this decision. "The energy challenges faced by Germany and many of our European partners are very real. And Canada recognizes that," he said. Previously, the United States Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, condemned the Russian delegation to the full for continuing to support President Vladimir Putin despite launching an invasion of Ukraine and making the global economy worse. Yellen urged Russia to take responsibility for the "terrible consequences" of the war started by Putin. He made this criticism when speaking at the opening session of the meeting of ministers of finance and central bank governors of G20 countries in Bali, Thursday (15/7). During the meeting, the Russian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Finance of Russia, Timur Maksimov. Meanwhile, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov participated in the meeting virtually while Yellen spoke. Western countries, especially the US, continue to urge Russia to be barred from participating in this year's G20 meeting which was held by Indonesia as a strong rejection of its invasion of Ukraine in February. However, Indonesia as the President of this year's G20 emphasized that it remained neutral and invited all members including Russia.
