Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has called for stronger global cooperation to protect glaciers, as melting ice increasingly threatens ecosystems and communities.

Speaking at the High-Level Conference on Glaciers Preservation (HLCGP) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir highlighted Indonesia’s own experience.

“Indonesia may be a tropical country, but we also have glaciers. Sadly, 99% of the Carstensz Glacier in Papua has disappeared due to climate change,” he said in statement, as quoted by antaranews.com on Sunday (`/6/2025).

Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha stressed the need to strengthen multilateral efforts, particularly through fair climate financing and greater access to adaptive technologies.

The conference gathered over 2,200 delegates from 65 countries, including heads of state and senior UN officials.
