Inp.polri.go.id - Purworejo. Governor of Central Java Ahmad Luthfi has called on Pati Regent Sudewo to reassess the recent 250% increase in Property Tax (PBB), warning that such a rise must not overburden residents.
Speaking on Thursday (7/8/2025), he outlined three directives: conduct a comprehensive study, which potentially involves universities, ensure the hike aligns with residents’ capacity to pay, and guarantee it does not strain the local economy.
"Raise taxes if necessary, but the amount must not burden the people," the governor said, adding that public consultations and transparent communication are essential to reach a balanced solution beneficial to both the local government and citizens.
Governor Luthfi also stressed that if the regulation proves burdensome, it should be promptly revised.
His remarks followed growing public discontent over the tax hike, with Pati residents planning a protest on 13 August 2025. Tensions have already risen in Pati after local authorities disrupted fundraising efforts for the demonstration.
