Inp.polri.go.id - Makassar. Blocking dormant bank accounts has cut online gambling crime in Indonesia by as much as 70%, according to the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
"The blocking of inactive accounts by the PPATK reduced online gambling transactions because such accounts were often sold to criminals," said Assistant Deputy for Data Protection and Electronic Transactions Coordination Syaiful Garyadi on Thursday (7/8/2025), referring to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center .
He acknowledged the policy’s positive impact but stressed the need for strong public outreach, noting that definitions of dormant accounts differ between banks and fall outside PPATK’s direct authority. In South Sulawesi, the province does not rank among the top ten most affected by social aid recipients involved in online gambling
