Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura.  Central Papua Regional Police Chief Brigadier General Alfred Papare urged supporters of both candidates in the Puncak Jaya election to remain calm and not be provoked.

“Do not be swayed by provocateurs seeking to disrupt public order,” he said on Friday (7/2/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Violence between supporters of Yuni Wonda-Mus Kogoya and Miren Kogoya-Wendi on Monday left one dead, 131 injured, and 32 houses burned.

Authorities are intensifying patrols and weapon raids to prevent further unrest.

Around 800 people, mainly women and children, have taken shelter at police stations, military bases, and churches. Some residents have begun returning home, and businesses are reopening.

Chief Papare affirmed that security forces would remain in Puncak Jaya until stability is fully restored.
